Look carefully at this picture….
In the distance is the ocean.
I know you probably can’t see it but past the dusky dark palm trees and below the brilliant, cotton candy clouds, lies the ocean. It’s vast and filled with all sorts of aquatic life underneath its surface – its magnitude is magnificent. But in this picture, with our naked eyes, it’s almost impossible to see.
I was thinking about this the other day as I stood out on the hotel balcony and stared at the ocean in all its glory (it’s truly my favorite). I had been trying to take pictures and capture that we had an actual ocean view from our room but, no matter what I tried with my camera, you could never see that ocean in the shot.
I realized how much this mimicked life. We may see something in others that they will never see. We may see something in ourselves that others may never see. It could be hope, potential, value, self-worth. It’s so easy to see the picture, think this is all there is, that no one will really see any more than this – and yet, they aren’t looking at the picture – they are looking at you and they see more than the picture – they see the vast expanse of greatness within you.
I’m pretty sure that is how God sees us as well. Not full of the mistakes or bad choices we made but full of life and hope because He sees us through Jesus. “…your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:3 NIV)
If you look in the mirror today, remember, you are more than what you are seeing. A whole ocean’s worth more.
